Question:

Fish (Danios) dying - any suggestions on what this could be?

Hi,

2 of my Danios have died. They have died approx 2-3 weeks apart. Their symptoms are: They suddenly are found at the bottom of the tank wedged in between rocks, they have red under the fins, eyes bulging, RAPID breathing and complete paralysis. They both died within the same night of developing these symptoms. I have got the water tested; its fine and after the first Danio died I have treated the water regularly for bacteria.

Does anyone have any idea of what this is?

Thanks in advance for your time and help.

  1. this sounds like ammonia and nitrite poisoning to me

which is caused by bad water conditions, which usually occurs when the tank is in cycling process

here is an article for your to read up on the nitrogen cycle

if ammonia and nitrite are not at 0, your tank is not done cycling yet

  2. i had the exact same problem with fish dyeing

i had new sand in the tank and i removed it and the fish stopped dyeing

  3. They may have gill disease,or gill parasites, shes right more info.

  4. What do you mean you treated the water for bacteria?

How long have you had the tank set up? Size? How many fish etc?

I don't think I'm going to know the answer but more info will help other people answer the question.
