Fish Frenzy?

My 3 fish [ 2 comet goldfish 1 calico oranda ] keep wanting food like being at the surface [ we have a filter they aren't going for air ] and when i go in the room they start swimming violintly at the surface i don't want to overfeed them and even with the filter in if i put in to much food the tank get's really dirty and stinks can you give me some advice on what to do?

Goldfish are not the brightest fish. They will often times eat until they kill themselves. It sounds like they have grown accustomed to eating a lot and will always want more. I have heard somewhere that a goldfish's memory resets everey five seconds.
