Fish Guppies? Need a pointer here...?

Well, I bought a female guppy that was already pregnant. She dropped yesterday..

So, to you guppy or fish experts, when do you know that they are done with dropping? I have 12 frys. (which is fine with me)

But when I came home, it so seems like a 'placenta' was the last thing I caught coming out. So I assumed that she's done dropping?

  1. shes done. separate her from her fry or the little ones will become happy meals! lol

  2. doesn't sound like she had very many...are you sure she hasn't eaten any of her young? they usually do.

  3. Well, honestly the best way is took just look at the size of here stomach. If here abdomen area is back to normal then she is done. Also she will start to move around more, she won't be in a birthing trance anymore.

Here is a great site for guppy care, and they have a video of a guppy that sold for I think $200 usd. Crazy cool looking.

  4. Sometimes young fish only have a few fry for their first batch.  They don't have a placenta but you may have seen an undeveloped fry coming out.

  5. Well, if there is only 12 fry, she either ate a lot of them..OR she is not done dropping! I would add LOT of fake plants and hiding spots to the tank with her so if she is still dropping fry. If 1 day goes by and you do not notice any more fry, she is done.

  6. Some guppies will eat there babies, some will not. I have had guppies at all but 3 of there babies and some that didn't eat a single one.
