Hi, I had just got a goldfish about June 15th. My fish, Emo, has been fine so far until about 2 or 3 days ago. He seemed to have some black spots on him like the very tip of his back tail fin, the top edge of his dorsal fin, and between his eyes around where a nose would be. Sometimes he will go to the surface of water to "breathe." He swims around normally nothing seems wrong. His spots are a very lite black. Can you help me?

  1. Hi Pie, the black spots are almost certainly the result of ammonia or nitrite burns caused by poor water conditions. Easy to fix by making sure you follow the instructions for cleaning your tank on the link below.

As soon as your water parameters are fine [zero for ammonia & nitrite] the black spots will disappear.

  2. LOL. I love your goldfish name. I think the black spots are normal.
