ok, i've been in aquariums for about 8 years now. I've got a dwarf gourami that has a lump just infront of his dorsal fin on the left side. It continues to get worse and worse and I'm worried about him. It's a little bit red and has a white p***y looking area on the very farthest up point. it's not ich. Any suggestions the water quality is very good about 82degree water as suggested, planted, and everything. It's had it for about 3 weeks now but it seems to get better then worse. I really like him and want him to stay with me.

any suggestions on things that it could be or things that I could do to make him more comfortable?

  1. internal bacteria infection but if not treated and does not get any better  it could develop into fin rot and fungus

    hope this helps u out

  2. take him to a pet store to get something to clear it, Its a parasite underneath the dorsal fin

  3. It could be a parasite, ulcer, tumor, it could be many things. I would suggest taking a pic of it and take the photo to a pet-store that you trust and ask for some advise from them. Good luck, hope your buddie feels better.

  4. Unfortunately, it sounds like you're dealing with Iridovirus (often causing , which is almost always fatal, and on the verge of a Dwarf Gourami epidemic-- these are not healthy fish in the least and rarely last long without becoming infected.  Darkened color, legions, abdominal swelling (from an expanding spleen), inactivity, and general unhealthiness are common symptoms.  The best thing you can do is separate it from any other fish and make it as comfortable as possible, and even consider euthenizing it.
