Is it true that fish can drown in water???

  2. yes. they filter dissolved oxygen from the water, so if there is not enough oxygen in the water, the fish can drown.

  3. yes.  Fish still require oxygen, so if there's little oxygen in the water, they could drown.  I had a paradise fish that got stuck near the bottom and drowned.

  4. well, some fish (Like the betta and gouramis) have a gland called the labyrinth gland that allows them to breathe from the atmosphere,. If they can not reach the surface, yes they can drown. They can stay underwater for a while, but eventually they need to come to the surface. Or die.

  6. yes some can. they all require oxygen from the air to pass into the water to be able to breathe and some fish known as labryinth fish which include bettas and gourami have a special organ that requires they take in air. this organ is present so that in the wild if their pond or lake dried up they could survive out of the water, and some even manage to 'walk' on their fins to a different pond.
