Fish tank is cloudy yellow, what should I do?

I just cleaned out the tank 2-3 weeks ago and got some new fish, new gravel and cleaned everything before putting it back in the tank.

This week the water has turned cloudy yellow. Could this be from overfeeding algae wafers? Before this problem I was putting in 1 a day for a plecostomus and my albino cory that likes to eat them as well.

In the tank I have 2 mollies, two neons, 1 albino cory, 1 very small plecostomus and 2 ghost shrimp.

Should I go ahead and remove everything in the tank and start from scratch again to take care of this problem?

Thank you for your advice!

  1. It could partly be from overfeeding you should only feed your fish 1 every other day.

Did you cycle your tank. this is very important because cycling alows good bacteria to multiply to nutrolize poo and food if you don't do this your tank water gets cloudy and causes the amonia to spike resulting in fish death.

So what you should do is take your fish out and start over and this time wait about 5 days to a week whlie letting the filter run then but the fish in slowly like put the 2 mollies in first then wait a week then put the 2 neons in then the cory then pleco then the ghost shrimp and everything should be fine.

  2. it could be from putting to much food in at one time..When you feed ur fish only feed them as much as they can eat within 10 minutes or less.

If u have any food left over at the bottom of the tank that means ur feeding to much. It could also be ammonia build up in the water none the less I would empty the whole tank and put in fresh water. But make sure the water is the same temp in the tank as the water that the fish is sitting in while u clean the tank or they will go into shock when u put them back in the tank. You could also get a chemical from the store that takes out ammonia as well.

  3. clean it duh!!
