I'm going to start an Aquarium. We just got a free fish tank and pump from my family friends. The glass is a bit cracked? How do I fix this? I think it'll leak if we put more water inside(Full). But right now with a little bit of water its not leaking. Also what do you reccomend I put inside? I want some turtles. Is there any fishes that dont get along with turtles? What kind of turtles do you reccomend in a big fish tank? Also what kind of fish do you reccomend. ALso how do i set it up? Do i use regular water for turtles? THANK U

  1. Is the crack horizontal or vertical?  If it is horizontal and near the top, you might be ok to use this tank for painted turtles or other water turtles but if the crack is vertical, you should use it dry for box turtles, desert tortoises or lizards or iguanas or snakes.  If you can only fill the tank half way with water, finding a filter that will work on the tank may be tricky.  Maybe a power head will help plus a sponge filter or two.  What kind of pump came with your tank?

  2. ok first of all you need to seal the crack with aquarium sealant (silicone) if you dont the crack will just keep gettin bigger and bigger. second how big is your tank? ONE turtle needs AT LEAST a 20 gallong LONG tank, and also requires alot more equipment. turtles eat fish, so no they do not get along. you can use regular water if you put conditioner in it.

i need more details to answer your ? more fully.

  3. To fix the crack you need an aquarium silicone sealant. (available at more walmarts and pet stores). And turtles eat fish (even the small ones), so you either have to have just turtles or just fish. If your tank is as big as the one in the pic you can hold probably 3 fair sized turtles. The general rule is 25 gallons per medium sized full grown turtle.

Try watching that...It's everything you're asking about and FYI...I keep a bunch of fish and a Crayfish in my tank.  My turtle does eat some (but they are feeder goldfish) and generally the other fish are too quick for her...I haven't lost a single one I bought for a pet to her dieting (save two striped fish that were sick and died, at which point I offered them to her and one Crayfish who mysteriously died).

  5. It is really not a good idea to use a fish tank with a crack in it, even if it is not leaking right now, it will DEFINITELY start leaking eventually.  Do you realize the pressure the glass is under?  Water weighs about 8 lbs per gallon.

You need to learn a lot more and get the proper equipment before even thinking about a turtle or fish.  If you are asking about what fish can go with turtles and if you need regular water you have a LOT to learn that I couldn't even begin to tell you about right now one here.

Not only is it cracked (and turtles swim into the glass so they would definitely break it) but your tank is only arm's length; you shouldn't even consider getting turtles as they will need a new tank in less than 6 months ( if you can even find turtles under 4 inches where you live)

By the way turtles are outlawed in most states to sell, and sometimes own.
