Question:

Fish/turtles in community ponds/lakes

I accidently threw some nuts/raisins into my community lake and think I should retrive them so that the fish don't choke on them. If I walk into the pond, which, i think, is about 6 foot deep, will I run the risk of smushing or walking over any fish or turtles? Is the chance of me stepping on a fish greater than the chance of a fish seeing the nut one day and deciding to eat it?

  1. Dont even worry about it. The nuts will soften in the water and the raisins are already chewable... any animals should be fine eating them.

  2. It's not a big deal. Fish move usually when they see something that might cause danger(aka your feet) and from my knowledge most turtle move if they are frightened and have a shell.

  3. lol.  Don't worry about the nuts/raisins.  The fish/turtles will probably leave them alone.  Fish don't breath with lungs, they do with gills, so technically can't choke.

And when swimming in a pond/lake, the fish know to get out of the way so don't worry about stepping on them.

But one question....once you got into the pond/lake, how were you going to find the nuts/raisins?

  4. Nothing to worry about either way. Fish and turtles know what is edible and what isn't. If you do wade in, the fish will get out of your way and the turtles won't be bothered even if you do step on them. One way of catching snappers is to wade barefoot thru the mud and feel for them. You just have to remember to grab them by the tail, not by the neck. ;-)
