Fish was laying on side near top of tank, I put food in, and it rushed over to eat. Is this fish dying?

I've never had problems with my fish dying. My tank is relatively new (filled in July) and I've had my fish since February in another smaller tank. I have a Mickey Mouse Platy fish that is tropical. She went back to laying on her side after eating. Is she on her way out? I'd hate to take her out and flush her if she's going to survive. She also has red under her gills. All the other fish look healthy. (about 12 total)

your fish is not dying she is  probably over feed try not to feed her for a day (I know this sound cruel but it works )

and also give her some vitamins and put her in a different tank.

if she is sick other fish will probably contaminate it and they will die

Yes she could be.  I used to have pet fish and they all layed on their sides days before dying.
