I have a 5000 gallon pond with a silver arowana in. Please tell me what would be good fish to add. I only want fish that will not harm my aro like red tail catfish. Do you think a giant gourami will be fine. The indoor pond is heated and covered.

  1. The best fish to keep with it in my experience is a stingray. Arowana stays at the top, and the stingray stays at the bottom. Also, A FISH that would go good is a florida gar. They grow to 2.5ft and eat the same stuff as the arowana. There is also another one that i dont remember the name. Its got long teeth like a sabre tooth.

  2. Is that to be in addition to this list that you picked for best answer?   There isn't too many more things I could really think of.  You have space for almost anything you really wanted to add.  Maybe a group of other catfish or  loaches?  I dunno really.

I don't really have any specifics on the species listing like maneating has, but I'd agree with and like the idea of sticking with all South American.  That theory is quite sound and find no faults in it.  Arowana are not highly predator types either.  They do grow large, but they will tend to stay on or near the surface for their foods.  Anything in the lower level will work fine, and as I pointed out before, if you go with more then one Arowana, group them in groups of 5-10.

  3. arowana`s are best kept on their own as they can grow to 47inch`s 120 cms they are highly predatory fish by nature but u could have a common pleco with them or larger angels, moray eels, groupers, grunts and triggers hope this helps u out these are the only fish that i know are compatible with silver arowanas

  4. you can get another fish of the same kind

  5. dream tank!!!!

    for all south/central american tank

hmmmm. catfish.. oxydoras niger, tigrinus, juruense,Leiarius pictus(not the same as pim.pictus, this one grows to two feet), Perrunichthys perruno, Leiarius longibarbis

characins.. pink tails, flagtails, various metynnis and myleus species (obviously the larger ones)

cichlids   jaguars, cichla temensis, dovii, umbis, maculicauda, even oscars, trimac(a lot of these like harder water and some even go seawater but can do quite well in a neytral environment.

i better stop now, i might tempt myself to get another big tank. have fun with these samplers
