Fishing at a pier with strange happenings?

the other night, i went fishing, based on a magazine that gives tidal info,it stated that the tide was going to be weak all night,so on that info i decided to fish for mangrove snapper since they are easier to catch on a slack tide.well the place i was trying to fish i have only been there once so i couldn't find the place at night, and i ended up going to the pier, normally i won't fish the pier on purpose on a slack tide because normally trout is what hangs around, and as all you fisherman know gamefish feed on outgoing or incoming tide not on a slack tide.now to make matters worse half of the bridge(pier) was under water lights and all, taken down by a recent hurricane (dolly) that had just passed through, well decided i was already there might just as well stay. going home was 1 1/2 hrs away.the few people that were there left because it just got too dark and with no light available they didn't want to risk a slip into the water.I had taken a gas lantern for the mangrove fishing spot,so i lit it up,at least i had some light even if it was a bit.then i rememberd that i had a green submersible light so i decided to might as well put that in the water,so here i am on a broken pier no light,no tide movement,no wind and the only thing biting were the mosquitos, well i kid you not about 2 am the microrganisms stared gathering at the green light and the small bait then bigger bait i started seeing shrimp about 5in.showing up all of a sudden the action began i had 3 poles in the water and they were all getting hit at the same time, i started pulling in trout, redfish, croaker, blackdrum and this frenzy continued all the way to 9:00am non-stop.with my biggest catch being a 3lb trout,i lost a 3 ft trout that was lost at the waters edge, but at least i got to see the monster fish.wow. but the most strangest of the evnts of that night was the light.remember i told you that half of the pier lights were under water, well the 3 pier lights that were still hanging on to the rest of the pier their wire were cut off so to avoid electrical shock, but at exactly 4:00 am them lights made like a cracking sound and they turned on and just gave light to all the pier, and the light that turned on was the one i was fishing directly under. what do you people think of this strange happenings or do you consider it normal.as for the tides they remained slack all night long even when i leaving their was still no water movement, just like the magazine had stated.

  1. the hurricane probably caused the electricity to go off and the timer for the lights wasn't reset when the electricity came back on.

    ok what's next

  2. OK, so these wires had been cut, to avoid electric shock? Yet the lights still came on for a short while?

You 'almost' caught a 3' trout?

    What do I think?

I think this would make a great Sci Fi story, it rings of the truth because I was on an all night fishing trip one time, no lights, not much of a moon, suddenly a light appeared from beneath the sea, I clearly saw swarms of massive fish, there was a sudden bite on my line, I saw this 6' 8" trout on my hook and I almost caught it, but it got away after a big struggle.

Just thought I would give you a bit of backing here!!

                                       Keep dreaming.

  3. I have to admit, I love those submersible lights. I had one a while back before it was stolen and it always drew in the fish and bait.

As for the lights..there have always been reports of weird things happening on piers and bridges all over Fla. Lights flickering when there was no light bulb in it, people seeing ghosts, catching fish that should have been dead long before it bit the hook, fishing poles going over the edge when it was never casted out and so on. I've never seen anything weird except for an escaped chimpanzee from a local lab staring me down in the early morn at a fave spot. I guess anything is possible when a person fishes at night. ~good luck catchin'.

  4. Wow, that must have been an interesting trip. I can see why the bait fish were attracted to your green light, and that would naturally attract the bigger fish. The light though, that I can't explain. Maybe there was a wire connected to that one that you didn't know about or maybe in all the activity the wires got moved and touched something that closed the circuit, no telling. It is strange, but at least you had fun...lol.

  5. a simple fact of life big fish go where the food is. There was food they went to it. as for the lights i have no clue.
