Fishing brackish water in the fall in southeast ga?

i live a few miles from a brackish river. i have never fished there i mostly stick to freshwater fishing. i have heard that there are drum there. i have not fished for drum either. does anyone have any suggestions about how to fish brackish water and for drum. i surf fish in the ocean and i fish all different ways in fresh but i have never went after fish in brackish water and i am wanting to try my handat it. could somone shoot me some suggestions. thanks and good fishin

  1. I would fish the bottom with some fresh frozen, fresh dead, or live shrimp. Shrimp is the way to go. Use enough weight to just keep your bait steady on the bottom. I would suggest using a small leader to protect your line from sheephead teeth. You should have a shot at catching black drum, red fish, and sheephead. If you are using squid for bait you might start catching to many hardhead catfish, they can be a total pain. 40yr exp


  2. small rattle traps.great for small mouth.and then work up in size for drum and all fish.you will be hooked.

  4. I'd go with the shrimp too and steel leaders..
