Fishing enters the 21st Century with the use of Technology

In days gone by, the best way to catch fish was to get in a boat, paddle out to the middle of a lake, put the lure in the water and hope for the best. But things have been changing these days, with the introduction of technology into the sport. Any person
that goes fishing wants to catch fish and be able to get into a battle to catch the most or the biggest ones that they can. These days new technology is being developed and some is already on the market to help fishing enthusiasts find lakes and rivers with
the most abundant fish and the best fishing prospects.
Fishing is an extremely old activity; evidence has been found that dates the practice to about 40,000 years ago. As ancient people caught fish as a food source all over the world, it was popular among all sorts of people and in many different areas as well.
As fish bones could be used to make tools, utensils and even small weapons the act of fishing took on a lot of importance to ancient civilisations. Evidence has been found of the ancient Egyptians using fish as a food source and as a source of tools. The activity
was also popular in ancient India with an extensive pearl fishing industry which had developed around the time.
The activity slowly moved on through the ages until modern times and fishing ports became very active for their economic potential. Fishing slowly became a recreational activity with fisherman venturing out into lakes and rivers to try and capture the best
fish to eat or simply to brag about. A sport developed around recreational fishing with people competing to catch the biggest fish or the most exotic fish around. Over time, with an increase in technology, in general society and in other sports, it soon made
its way into fishing as well.
Technology moved into the activity slowly; first simple sticks would be used with a line attached to them. Then slowly new types of fishing rods were invented that were made of lightweight but strong material that allowed them to bend and not break when
pulling in a fish. Powerful reels were also added that allowed fisherman to cast the line a lot further and quickly be able to reel the line in to pull in a fish. But the sport was in need of a technology boost and it seems to be getting it these days.
One of the most annoying things to happen to fishermen is when the line snaps while they are reeling in a big catch. Recently, innovations in fishing line technology have produced a new type of line called monofilament fishing lines. These new lines are
made from a special material which makes them stronger so they do not snap easily while also bringing down the cost significantly from other hard to snap lines.
The other aspect of fishing that perturbs most fishermen is getting to a lake or river and not finding any fish in the water and only finding this fact out after hours of sitting in a boat. New gadgets have been developed which work to help a person find
fish in the water. A new touchscreen ultrasound device has been invented which allows a fisherman to see exactly what is below them in the water and find fish a lot easier than before. It also combines a satellite tracking system and also provides up to the
minute weather report for those fishermen who like to take their sport to the high seas.
Recently a digital application has been developed which will give fishing enthusiasts all the information they need about all the lakes and rivers in the region where they are situated. It will tell them about the types of fish in the area, give them advice
on techniques to catch the fish and also provide the current rules and regulations of the area.
We will continue to see numerous inventions and gadgets being brought to market for the benefit of the fishing community. It was inevitable that sooner or later technology would enter the sport of fishing and make life easier for the diehard fishing fan.
It will be interesting to see what happens next in the world of fishing.
