Question:

Fishing for Redfish and black drum?

Ok so I've been fishing off a dock with with bushy lining on the edge of the shore where I've seen plenty of huge Black drum and Red Drum going by but none of the methods I've tried have worked so far to catch them. There are oyster beds in the area which we've seen them eat but they won't even acknowledge it when we cast out oysters, fiddler crabs, or finger mullet. Is there something I'm doing wrong? Using sinkers gets our bait wrapped the oysters and leads to a lot of lost baits. Is there a problem with seeing the fish we're trying to catch. Maybe our baits are too obvious? any suggestions?

  1. you may try using live bait such as live shrimp free line it just toss it towards them it will try to swim away from them and they will pounce on it.just the other night i went fishing on a pier that had no lights so i used a green light that i had just bought and boy did i catch more than my fair share of croakers, blackdrum, redfish, trout and lost  a 3ft trout all on a very slack tide,go figure.lol(i was getting bites simultaneously on 3 poles that i had set out, throughout the whole night.)i caught them on live shrimp, live mullet, live 3in shad, blue crab, cut mullet and artificial lures.what a night.

  2. Call the fish names if they won't bite. Also, a less obvious bait is canoli or cheetos.

  3. you cant beat the popping cork and live shrimp method for drum or reds. been there done that on lake Calca- shoe? sp?  out of Hackberry Louisiana. Calcasieu?

  4. use a net

  5. Try useing a live shrimp, suspended under a bobber, with the shrimp being within 3-6" off the bottom.

incomming tide, is usually the best

  6. try going 2 hours before high tide and when u go to the bait store buy one pack of these oyster and sandworms or silver sides and what u do is either buy shiners its a 3 hooked flat hook thats shines and put an oyster on it and take a regular hook and put the silver side on it and then take ur sinker and put the sand worm on it. and for the silver side baited line let it sit in the water for the sink let sink where ever u see the fish go by cast the sinker there and let sink when it gets to the bottom reel in a bit and let it stay in the water and just move the pole so that the sinker with the bait on it bounces up and down and for the shiner cast out as far as u can and reel it in kinda slow and keep doing that it worked for me hope it works for you

    GOOD LUCK

  7. Use a cork with a live shrimp...pop the cork two or three times and let the fish find your bait...this method should work for you

  8. hmm i never heard of that fish but ill read about them and if i get a good soloution for u ill tell u
