Question:

Fishing help? (Picture included)?

I'm going fishing in Freeport, Texas on Friday and I plan on doing some fishing and crabbing. I have this line set-up and I was wondering if it would work to catch any fish at all? I will be fishing from a jetty. What kind of bait should I use? I was planning on buying some baby frozen squid. Would that work? Is there any better kind of bait? What time of day should I fish?

What kind of fish should I expect? I have these lunker lights near my bait, will that help? Sorry for asking so many questions! Last year I went, but i went unprepared and only had some fly fishing stuff. I actually want to catch something this year! So here is the link to my line set-up...

  1. just use a swimbait and a RAT-L-TRAP and you got nice big fish out there!

NOTE: recommedations colors for swimbait and RAT-L-TRAP are white, green, blue, gold and something shiny.

  2. That is what we call a "chicken rig" used mainly for bottom fishing.  It will catch whiting , croaker and fish of that type, maybe black drum with squid in that area.  There is good trout and redfish fishing in that area, try some live bait (shrimp, pinfish, finger mullet, etc...) under a popping cork or some artifical lures such as mirro-lure, yozuri etc... in a finger mullet pattern or sardine pattern.  This time of year, early  in morning or late in afternoon on a moving tide. Good luck.

  3. If you were wondering if  using frozen squid would wok you were right.tThe best time to fish is either in the mornin or at night. for the other questions im not sure. Hope this helps.

  4. try live shrimp under a popping cork set 3 foot deep or soft plastics like the queen cocahoe minnow in transparent metal flake with chartruse tail.

  5. the first guy is right but u can never be sure wat type of fish ur gonna catch, one time i cought a catfish with a peice of bakon

  6. never fished in freeport but i've fished in galveston with about the same setup as yours also try rigging on the top portion with a live piggy perch or croaker and on the bottom maybe setup with cut mullet or  cut bait such as croaker.

  7. yeah you should use live bait like pinfish, mullet and whitebait

  8. i fish in freeport, i use dead or live croker...that will catch just about anything....and you are right dead squid is also a must to fish with off the jetty. i usually catch fish all day...but if you really want to catch fish wait untill the blue water gets close to the jetty
