Fishing help!? ledger and dropper rig? surfcasting?

hey im just wondering whats they difference between a ledger and a dropper rig? are they just different names for the same rig? and also how long is an ideal surfcasting rod? is 9 foot alright? thank youuuuuuuuu!

The bigger the better for a surf rod. A dropplar rig is where the lead is on the bottom and the hooks above it.
