Question:

Fishing imitation craw fish

I was wondering if an imitation craw fish would work in a freshwater pond/lake where there is no present craw fish around for largemouth bass. I would guess not, but would like to see the majority of opinions. Thanks!

  1. Nothing ventured nothing gained - sometimes there is no explaination why fish bite - they just do.  Go for it!!

  2. My confidence bait when bass fishing is YUM soft craw.   I've caught most of my biggest bass on this bait.  I know that I can throw it, and catch fish with it.  The key is certainly to try and resemble the real thing.  I've fished tournaments when no one is catching fish, and I'll end up with a couple as long as I stick to a craw.  I cast a lot of different things, but when you need to slow it down, grab this plastic first.

  3. I would definitely give it a try. I'm convinced Bass as well as other fish hunt by intuition, even if the prey is not natural to that specific environment. Fishing up in Wisconsin a few years ago my buddy was nailing bass on big 7 inch lizards, not natural to the lake or territory, and not during the typical spawning season when you would fish lizards. He hammered the large mouth. It's just in  a Bass's nature. That's why you'll see small 5 inch bass hit a 4 inch lure sometimes.

  4. The vertical jigging, hopping, or dragging or swimming motions are common to a number of lures, as are the colors. The creature shapes in soft plastics are also universally capable of catching bass....in fact bass will eat anything they can fit in their mouth when they are in the mood. Some lure companies have put out joke lures like rubber ducks, that actually catch fish.

Also you may want to test your opinion on your lakes population of crawdads. they may in fact be their, try a trap with fish guts or bacon, in a small mesh trap. I'll bet your wrong and in fact you do have a crawdad population.

  5. i was in kentucky last week and fished several ponds with the crawdad and it worked fine. there are no live crawdads in any of them. we dont have much bass fishing here in the west so i was just experimenting. the crawdad and a rubber frog worked the best.

  6. a bass will hit a shoe string.anything that moves.but from exsperience it is best to exsplore your tackle box when fishing new areas.good luck to ya

  7. yes

  8. Absolutely, largemouth bass will try to eat just about anything. The largemouth bass is one of my favorite freshwater fish to catch along with smallmouth bass. I was fishing for smallmouths up in the Delaware Water Gap and a bait & tackle shop owner suggested I use hellgrammites for bait. They are nasty looking but are an awesome bait. Well I tried them and they worked tremendously. So, when I came home (200 miles away) I built a mold in my shop and cast my own hellgrammites from soft plastic. Apparently they are not around my area. I took my imitation, went fishing and started catching largemouths. So yes, your craw fish are going to work. Tight lines!
