You are only a short drive from Lake Ontario, one of the most productive of the Great Lakes, and you're coming into the peak of Salmon season. Chaeck with any of the major tackle shops in Rochester for the best shore access in the area.

what kind of fish??  That matters...some people are happy to catch bluegills or suckers & carp all day...

Like he said - Salmon are going to start running, also Brook trout spawn in the fall too so they will become very active and their colors will be awesome.

I'd go to lake Ontario and go looking for some bass and as it gets cooler I'd start looking for the Salmon and Musky or Pike.  

If you're fishing and you notice some submerged rockpiles - start fishing for smallmouth - use either worms or a crayfish imitation either the rubber ones or the plug.

So many fish there so little time - stop into some of the local baitshops - old timers like to talk about what is biting and what they are biting on - but they normally don't talk about where they are biting but if you listen enough you can piece it together.

The baitshop will also tell you where to go and what to use so you'll come back to buy more stuff from them.

The lakes and ponds in your area should have some bass in them... try different color rubber worms  or just night crawlers....
