Question:

Fishing in Cornwall, any tips for a beginner?

I am going fishing in Cornwall in September but I am a complete novice to this. Can anyone tell me what equipment I shall need, I believe it will involve surf and boat fishing and that gear will not be provided. Also someone gave me a Daiwa long cast reel, any ideas whether this is any good and whether it will be any use to me on my trip? I will obviously have to get a matching rod. Many thanks.

  1. As a young novice in Cornwall the best ever time I had was 'spinning' from any old boat/inflatable/trawler.No rod, just a line.Mackerel ! After that a 'line' with 10 hooks ! Hit a shoal and 3 or 4 fish.Easy ! (and exciting !). Greatest memmories a kid could have ! Eat them too , even better !

  2. Watch out for the great white shark that is swimming around there. :)

  3. How about not going fishing because it's cruel and doing something more worthwhile instead.

  4. Wait until you know what your fishing for before you go out buying a rod.If you wait until your there you can get the rod.Fishing -Angling shops sell them all inclusive for a good price.Rod-Reel-Line hooks.Should get an adequate one for£30

or plus.Lot of Mackerel in Cornwall and they are easy.Either with a float or feathers.Float is catching one.Feathers you have

up to five hooks on the end of your line and each of them have

coloured feathers to attract the fish.If you feel one on the end one pull to secure it is all you need and reel in slowly. You will

more likely than not get some more on the other hooks.Pretty

dumb Mackerel.Still a good feeling when you get 3,4 or5 on

the end.Enjoy.The weather is good  in September.

  5. Go to a tackel shop and ask.  Beware of them giving you name brands though, because they might be more expensive.  If you don't plan to do it often, ask if they rent gear.  Practice tieing knots, because chances are you will have to do it quick and often.

  6. man i just went, bass is good so is wreck but for a beginner i would buy some fishing feathers and do some mackeral fishing from the cliffs it is easy as you dont need bait, but take my advice and take a beach caster rod cos you'll never pull up 4-6 fish on a spining rod it will snap. good luck and enjoy dude

  7. The reel is fine just give it a little clear oil.Rods are relatively cheap so don't go for the dearest,Get a book on knots  and practise tighing hooks to the line.Put sun block on regardless of the weather because the wind will even burn you, stay warm and you will really enjoy yourself.

    I envy you,good luck.
