hi! i'm 13 and i fish alot.

and everytime i go to the river i only catch small rainbow trouts..

i've used big worms for steelheads because regular worms/real get chewed off alot..

so yesterday i went the the skykomish river in monroe and i got about 4 huge bits.. my pole almost snapped in half its a shakespear.

but it seems to get off the hook..

its a pretty big hook and i cast right in the middle of the river..

the river looks a bit like this..

i just found this pic on google so.

i get instant bites when i cast it out and i make sure its in a very deep area.

i was wondering if theres like a secret to when you pull because my fish are always geting away.

also what kind of line should i use

i was using thread like line to feel more action.

also when i cast out

i put my pole to the little left and make sure the line is tight and i always see it bouncing and sometimes i give it a little yank or sometimes i let it swallow i've tried everything but it doesn't work.

  1. I have found out that when fishing in certain rivers the current can actually play tricks on you. It may seem like your getting a bite when it's just the fast moving water. If in fact it is a big one try this; when he starts pulling on the line or takes the bait  let the tip of your rod go down toward the water count to three while you are lowering the rod then set the hook this will give him the chance to get the bait in his mouth good. you may have been pulling the hook right out of his mouth. good luck young man!

  2. maybe your hook is too big.........try a smaller hook

  3. Laura has it pegged mate

IE: weak tip little fish, stiff tip big fish.

  4. Answer:  Maybe your hook is too small for a big catch.

Marine sharks have previously been confirmed in one of the

American Great Lakes far from their usual saltwater (that's further upstream than Monroe).  To fish for shark try the following method.  Bait fist size single steel barb with stinky road-kill.  Tie hook to quarter-inch diameter welded steel chain about 10 feet in length.  At other end of chain use empty gallon bleach bottle as a float and lower this tackle into river from mid-span of any bridge having a safe walkway; use half inch nylon rope tied to float end of chain to lower into water.  Tie your end overnight to part of span structure.  Return the next day to see what has been hooked.  You'll probably need help to hoist shark high enough so it can be beaten to death using 5 feet of one inch diameter steel pipe.  Don't lose foot or hand to your hooked river catch.  Bull shark are known to swim inland and, yes,

they have killed people in the water.

  5. First, its beautiful country where you are at and I wish I were there fishing, second, change your line out to 30 lb. braid and use a fluorocarbon leader and a small 1/0 circle hook. The braid will give you the thin diameter and the feel you are looking for along with some strength, the leader will have you nearly invisible and the circle hook will pretty much hook the fish when it swims away. If you still don't hook the fish you'll need to use a smaller hook. Hey, give it a try and I think you will be surprised with the results. Remember to let some of the fish go for later. Tight lines!

  6. You are either trying to set too soon, or you aren't setting hard enough, or your hook could be too big, or your rod tip could be too weak. There are a lot of things that could help you, and there are a lot of different techniques. Look at this link, it is a link to all of the "setting the hook" questions that have been on yahoo answers, including my own. You should easily be able to find what you need here:

I also found two sites that might help a little. They are talking about trolling plugs for steelhead, but the most of the same concepts are going to work for fishing with a worm.
