  1. You don't need a licence in most places. But there may be restrictions on fishing from certain areas such as piers and areas where sea-life is protected in marine reserves.

Most coarse rods are made for fresh-water fishing of such species as carp, etc. The rod you use depends on where you want to fish from and the target - from a boat or beach or rocks or pier. From a boat, you can use just a line for mackerels. A coarse rod will also do, but quite unnecessary.

  2. A licence is not required for sea fishing in England

A coarse rod is for freshwater fishing but could be used for mackerel although a spinning rod would be better

  3. hi, i stay in Scotland and we dont have to get a licence for fishing seawater. i see you budget is about £15.00 perhaps you could wait another 2 weeks and get one about £30? it would be much better and the local tackle shops will help if you go in and tell them what your after. fishings addictive and you will end up making plans for baits, lures and different sites to catch them, but give yourself a head start and get the sturdiest bit of kit that you can afford to begin. nice to see a young man taking an interest, tight lines.

  4. As far as i know fishing in the sea does not require a licence.

  5. You don't need a coarse rod, its for fresh water, but could work well for spinning for mackerel, you don't need a license, buy a rod that's rated about 2oz and it should cover most fishing situations with spinners for mackerel, the best spinner for distance should weigh about 1oz, a spinning reel with 10lb test line will also work very well, for rods about 7-10ft in length should work well, try these

This is a little bit more expensive but should last a life time of spinning, it also will give you better casts, add a reel such as a shimano bait runner and you've got your self a great combo

Its great you want to fish catch and release, keep at it, sadly there isn't more people doing so, if there was we would have a greater fish stock level.

The imax rod, which is a little more expensive will also be a great rod for "plugging" for bass, with plugs-something you may want to start doing, its great fun and since you seem to want to catch and release it would be a great aspect of the sport for you to choose once you tire of mackerel fishing. These work great for bass and mackerel

Spinning reels, incase you do  intend to buy the imax rod

You dont need a licence to fish for any saltwater fish, apart from salmon and sea trout, which you chance of catching is very small.

Added, the rod you stated isnt bad, however the only problem is its telescopic, whichs means it can jam, look for something that is in sections, maybe two or three, and not telescopic where you pull it to use it.

  6. Most people have answered your question already, buut I just have one point to make.

I wouldn't bother fishing for mackerel if your intention is to put them back. They will go into shock and die anyway, so you might as well keep them and give them away to the old folk in your area - they love kind gestures like this. Or you could freeze them and use them as bait on your next trip to save some money.
