Fishing on long island new york?

ok i started fishing. I'm 13 and live in long island new york. today we went fishing and i caught 3 ok sized blue fish. i wanted to know and good location i can go to (without a boat) to get different types of fish and larger sized ones. is there bass fishing location. and also i wanted to know what is a cheap priced rod that is small to buy. mine is over 10 feet (got as gift) so i need a smaller one. i want the location to be saltwater but fresh will bo okay. my family still needs to get licenses
