  1. Fishing poles are normally sized by thier length (6', 7', etc.)and for thier action (ultra-light, light, light to medium, medium to heavy, and heavy). They may also state on the pole what kind of fishing they are made for (boat rod, surf rod, etc.)

    4/0 ... I'm guessing someone was taking about fishing hooks sizes.

    Small hooks have a big number (like 12 or 10 ), the bigger a hook gets..the smaller the number, all the way down to zero. Then multiples of zero for even larger hooks.

    Small-->  8,6,4,2,1, 0, 00, 000, 0000, etc..<-- large

  2. This means hook size.  In the instance of any number over 0, the hook size increases as the number increases.  However, with a hook size without the 0 means the hook size gets smaller as the number increases.  For example 11/0 is greater than 4/0 and 10 is bigger then 12.

  3. ohgerr is correct about hooks fishing rods are generally called out by IM numbers   IM-7 is a 7 ft rod  IM-6 6ft   but different manufacturers may have different numbers....

    Go to BassPro.com  or cabelas.com look at the fishing rods for designators...

  4. ohger is correct, but i have a major point, always buy a solid blank fishing rod! you can feel the slightest touch and learn when  your on bottom or have a hit! plus they last forever! i am an avid fisherman of fish ranging from, brook trout to salmon and walleye, it makes alot of difference

    in sensitivity to have a solid blank!
