Fishing weights question ???

when using fishing weights, whats to best place to put the weight and why ??? i've seen some people have them on the end of the line, i was just wondering why???

  1. If your weights are too close to the hook, the fish won't bite. If they're

    too far, the line will get tangled up & the fish will steal the bait. Usualy,

    12 to 14 inches from the hook. But in real swift water, put your sinkers on the bottom of the line & tie the hook around 14 inches up from the

    sinker. This lets the weights hold the line in one place while the hook

    can float around & looks alive.


  2. I just depends on the type of rig you are using.  That dictates where the weight goes.  If you are seeing lots of sinkers on the bottom of the rig and the hooks above the weights then likely those rigs are being used in either very rocky areas or place with strong currents.

    The rule of thumb with weight is to use just enough to get your bait down, but not so much that it impedes the action of the bait.

  3. The placement of weight depends on many things. It depends on fish species, water condition, structures, etc...
