Fishless cycle for 12 gallon aquarium?

Question

I put about 8 drops of ammonia in a tank.

it has 1.5 ppm

do i have to raise it to 5.0 now or gradually raise it to 5.0

raise it slowly so the beneficial bacteria will have a chance to grow WITH the amonia increase.
