I am getting a 120 gallon fish tank and i would like to put it on this solid wood dresser i have, I'm not using it for anything and would like to use it, but i found out the tank as a whole will weigh 960 POUNDS! when full. OMG! so how do i figure out if it will hold this for years to come? i was looking at stands made for that weight and they dont look as sturdy as this dressor but im no expert, the dressor is like a inch off the ground and 2 long angle legs on each side,

  1. A small tank can sit on a dresser OK, but when you get up to 120gal you are supporting 1/2 a ton of weight. The commercial tanks may look a bit puny, but they are braced to hold the weight.

Personally I would build a stand from 4x2s and heavy construction plywood, that you could park a small car on, and then sleep easy.

  2.        Well, I've never dealt with a tank anywhere close to the size you're dealing with. That dresser might be enough to hold it, but I'd put my money on the aquarium stands. I understand, they don't look strong enough, but they'll hold it. My aquarium stand is just an iron frame, but it holds my 29 gallon and all my supplies and chemicals.

  3. You can look up the rating of the furniture on the maker's website.  Search the back and bottom of the dresser for a brand name and model number, and you can just call the company and ask them what it's rated to hold.  It only takes a few minutes to call, and then you'll know for sure what weight the dresser can hold.   :)
