Fit downloaded video on tv screen?

Question

I want to watch anime video on dvd player, the video format is avi....I'm able to watch it but I cannot read the subtitles (it doesn't fit the screen).

Here are the details of the video

Video: XVID 640x480 23.98fps 907Kbps [Video 0]

Audio: MPEG Audio Layer 3 48000Hz stereo 128Kbps [Audio 1]

So i changed the video resolution to 800x600 but the dvd player cannot read it anymore

What should i do? I want to watch anime in avi format but what should i do to fit it on screen so that i will able to read the subtitles...

First, check if your TV has it positioned carefully, if it is in Widescreen, and you can also try using programs to actually convert it to DVD format, rather than RAW AVI. Make sure it is in Letterbox Widescreen, and not Pan and Scan.
