Fitness for golf: Tandi Cuningham launches Pilates for LET stars

South African Tandi Cuningham is making the headlines once again, as she has reportedly launched Pilates training session for professional golfers.
According to the details, Cuningham has introduced the fitness training programme to help golfers battle issues related to their body, physical strength and muscular problems.
The South African star will be overseeing the exercise classes, as she has been involved in Pilates for over three years. After joining professional golf, Cuningham has not been able to fully focus on Pilates, but she has once again decided to help players
keep in shape.
Speaking to the media about the exercise programme, the professional golfer said that it is becoming increasingly important for active players to pay attention to their strength and body conditioning.
Pilates typically concentrates on improving body strength and flexibility, and players usually take these classes to work on their physical fitness.
Flexibility has been an important factor in golf, and players these days tend to pay more attention to it than they used to a decade ago. In addition to Pilates, there are several fitness programmes being run by professional stars. However, Cuningham has
unveiled this programme exclusively for the LET (Ladies European Tour).
Experts said that with the introduction of Pilates for professional players, the sport will see a tougher competition on the course.
They said that golfers mistakenly think that they can get away with lack of strength and flexibility, but golf has now evolved to make it more necessary for players to take physical exercises on a regular basis.
The South African star discussed how the exercise classes are going to help golfers in improving their skills.
“I think the biggest benefit for the girls will be injury prevention. It’s going to help with their flexibility and their mobility. As you know, the golf swing is not a natural movement and it does load the spine and the body quite a lot,” Cuningham said.
She went on to say that in addition to improving muscles and flexibility, Pilates will also help player boost their internal strength—a key factor for staying calm on the course.
“The Pilates I think will give them a lot more internal strength and more internal stability and that in turn will help them generally with their stamina on the course and their ability to actually beat more golf balls”.
