Fitness has become very important in cricket, says http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Roderick-Orville-Estwick-c86374 – Cricket News Update
Roddy Estwick, the head coach of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/West-Indies-c760 Under-19s and former First-Class cricketer, has stressed upon the importance of physical fitness in International competitive cricket and the need for holding training camps, which he thinks gauge both skills
and stamina of players.
Estwick aired these views while describing the success story of the recently-concluded training camp for the U-19 team which is set to tour http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750 by the end of this month.
The coach has hailed the efforts of the players who have demonstrated sheer diligence and vigilance in the camp to make the event successful and polish their capabilities for the upcoming series.
The former player tells that all the young guys of the team are brilliant and cooperative as they have endured long training sessions but have shown no fatigue. He has also lauded the support staff and the camp organisers for the fruitful venture.
Talking to the media, Estwick said, “We need more camps like these because fitness has become very important in cricket and we did the tests and the players now each have individual programmes to work with to improve, these camps allow us to gauge where
they are from time to time and then work on making them better.”
He further told, “It was a short camp but it was successful, especially because the support team was very good, the players were able to receive a lot of one-on-one coaching from the various experts who were there."
Some of the former legends of Team West Indies, like http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Desmond-Leo-Haynes-c53859 and Walsh, also attended the camp and shared their valuable experience with the youngsters.
Having spent fruitful time in the camp, the players are now quite fit and ready to face the big challenge in India.
The head coach is hopeful of his team’s triumph against the Indians as he has left no stone unturned to prepare the players.
Estwick himself had been a good seamer in domestic cricket. He played 37 First-Class and 42 List A games for Barbados, Lincolnshire and Transvaal during his career that ranged from 1982 to 1990.
