Fitness will determine retirement plans: http://www.senore.com/Cricket/MS-Dhoni-c2028 – Cricket News Update
Retracting his previous statements about how he would be retiring from Test cricket if he planned to play in the 2015 World Cup, Indian skipper MS Dhoni said his remarks had been “blown out of proportion”.
Following http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746, the Men in Blue’s wicketkeeper captain has stated that he might retire from Test cricket in order to play in the 2015 World Cup.
However, he recently confirmed that any retirement calls would depend entirely on his fitness.
“By the end of 2013, I have to see where my body stands, whether I can play the 2015 50 over World Cup,” he said. “And if I am not fit enough then I have to make way for the youngsters coming in.”
“If I see that I can only play till the end of 2014 in both the formats (ODI and Tests) then I have to give up the ODI format because I will not be able to play the 2015 World Cup. There is no point in pursuing the ODI career. So, it was more like what
is good for everyone.”
He went on to clarify that wicketkeeper slot was a difficult one to fill, and almost as important as the post of captain, since the keeper dictated field settings. For this reason, he explained that he might consider restricting himself to a single format
in order to make sure that his experienced wicket-keeping abilities were available for the Men in Blue during the World Cup.
The 30-year-old first took over the reins of the team in 2007, when he was chosen as captain for the World T20 in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/South-Africa-c757 – a tournament from which the Men In Blue emerged as champions. He was also appointed ODI captain in the same year, and took over
the Test captaincy after http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Anil-Kumble-c44737 retired in 2008. The highlight of his stint as captain, however, was undoubtedly the World Cup triumph in 2011, when India were crowned the World Champions.
In addition to national commitments, the right-hander is currently leading the Chennai Super Kings in the ongoing 5th edition of the Indian Premier League. The Super Kings are the most successful IPL franchise, having won the tournament twice,
and are currently at number 4 on the points table, having won 4 of the ten matches they have played.
