Fitting RAM cards into my computer...?

I have scanned my computer and have bought a 2GB RAM stick on-line. But the scans say I have 2 DDR 1GB RAM sticks in 2 separate slots, 1 of them doesn't appear to be being read by the computer so my actual computer is only using 1GB of RAM. But that isn't my problem, I have ordered a DDR2 2GB RAM stick and I don't know if they will work if I use them alongside the other RAM sticks? Should I replace them both and get 2GB of RAM because only one card is being read? Or should I just insert the new card and have 4GB of RAM but using 2 types of card, DDR and DDR2? And will that work?

You cant use DDR2 and DDR RAM together, so if you've already ordered the DDR2 you have no choice but to ditch the DDR... or cancel your order. You should also check the specs of your motherboard, to make sure it actually supports DDR2.

The words all make sense, but I honestly have no clue what you're trying to say with the order in which you've used them.

One thing's for sure, you cannot use DDR2 RAM in a DDR machine, or vice versa. Something got screwed up along the line there.

unless you have a Asrock 4CoreDual-SATA2 VIA PT880 1066MHz Dual DDR400/Dual DDR2-667 then no you wont be able to run ddr and ddr2 side by side in the same motherboard

ddr and ddr2 are different, you need to check your motherboard manual to see exactly what it supports.
