Question:

Fitting Snowboard Bindings?

I'm not sure whether you need to fit bindings to the corresponding holes on each foot? I.e. if your left foot holes are such : : : : and you fit the bindings to the middle set of 4, do you need to do the same for your right foot?

I've never had any problem with my Burton Royale snowboard, since I've been able to put the bindings on the corresponding holes, with a stance width of 20". But I've borrowed a Venue board for dry slopes, and if I keep the bindings on the corresponding holes as described above, I have a choice of a stance width of 21.5" or 18.5".

If I don't have to use the corresponding holes, is it better to have the bindings shifted to the back of the board or the front? And what are the implications of this?

  1. All you have to do is be comfortable. First you have to decide how far apart you like your stance to be. Pick the most comfortable width and then worry about what degrees your feet are at. It doesnt matter one bit if the holes arent the same for either feet.

  2. 2" setback is kind of alot, but it beats having it negative. Setback can be good for powder, so you can relax your back leg instead of trying to lean back to get your nose up.

Does 1.5" even matter that much for stance width? i hardly think so.

  3. You can use whichever sets of holes that will give you the right stance.  If it doesn't feel right then keep moving them around until you find the right binding positions.
