Five American pro riders make the Street League cut through The Selection
The results of the American qualifiers of “The Selection” came out on Monday, April 23, revealing the name of the five skateboarders who will be joining the line-up for this year’s Street League and getting a shot at taking home $150,000.
The five professional skateboarders selected through a well-structured voting process include Jimmy Carlin, Austyn Gillette, Tom Asta, Matt Miller and Ishod Wair.
In order to expand the competition field and make the latest season of Street League a huge success, the competition organisers decided to offer slots to the riders selected through voting, referring to the whole process as “The Selection.” Two separate
qualifiers were organised, with one comprising of 10 American professional skateboarders, while the other consisting of 14 skateboarders from Europe.
Five riders from the American qualifiers and one rider from the European qualifier were to be selected. The Street League judges, riders already in the competition line-up and the fans were given the right to vote for the rider who they wanted to get in
contention for the huge prize money that the competition had on offer.
Talking about “The Selection,” the general manager of Street League Brian Atlas commented that the selection process had been quite exciting.
“'The Selection' qualifier has been an exciting lead-up element heading into the 2012 series. For 10 amazing pros to submit footage to hopefully win a spot to skate in Street League is a testament to the evolution of the tour,” said Atlas. “We're anxious
to see how these new guys will fair next month in Kansas City. It's going to be interesting.”
Looking forward to making a solid impact in their first ever Street League campaign, the long-time DC rider Miller is pretty pumped him. He has plenty of technical tricks in his arsenal, though it remains to be seen how his prowess measures up to the skills
of Nyjah Huston, the skateboard sensation who claimed top honours in three of the four stops of Street League last year.
Wair is another of the five American professional riders who have received an opportunity to get his skills acknowledged at such a big stage. He has a handful of contest victories to his name, which includes first place in Maloof Money Cup in South Africa
in 2011. Street League is without any doubt a perfect platform for him to put his skills on display.
