Five Americans finish inside the top-10 at Kingsmill Championship
The Kingsmill Championship, which will see Paula Creamer and Jiyai Shin of South Korea battle it out in sudden death playoff on Monday morning, has seen five American players finish inside the top-10.
Paul Creamer, who is one of the most talented contenders from the United States, dominated the leaderboard of Kingsmill Championship right from the start.
She is now currently seeking to crush Shin in playoff that was suspended on Sunday, due to darkness. The playoff will resume on Monday morning, as both the players had played eight holes before the light faded on Sunday.
Other American contenders who finished inside the top-10 include Angela Stanford, current world number two Stacy Lewis, Gerina Piller and Danielle Kang.
Creamer is undoubtedly the star performer at the Kingsmill Championship, as she has lived up to the expectations of American spectators.
However, it remains to be seen how she fares against Shin when comes face-to-face against Shin on Monday morning.
Angela Stanford, who won the HSBC Women’s Champions 2012 in February this year, maintained a firm grip on her game throughout the four days of the tournament — and gave a tough time to Asian rivals, especially South Koreans.
Stanford posted an overall 271 to finish tied for the fifth position, along with Scottish Catriona Matthew. The American star was stunning on the greens as her putting was way better than before, helping her cement her position on the leaderboard.
Stacy Lewis also performed well, although she could not remain in contention till the final moment. Lewis got off to a very solid start as she recorded a 69 in the opening round, but her performance in the second round put her in an even stronger position.
Having shot a 65 on Friday, the LPGA (Ladies Professional Golf Association) Phenom gained the much-needed confidence and moved into an even tougher battle in the next two rounds.
Speaking to the media at the end of the second round, Lewis said that she is pretty excited after making a good start. She mentioned the Rockies game, saying she and Angela were there.
“Angela and I, we went out to Denver last Monday and Tuesday and I think Angela was in heaven at the Rockies game. If you've ever seen her at a baseball game, she's pretty excited,” the American golfer said.
“It was a lot of fun. We got to go sit right behind home plate. It was cool to see the actual Solheim Cup back out there and kind of get that U.S. ‑ Europe rivalry going again”.
