Five England players that need to impress against http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Ghana-c2905 – International Football (Part 1)
With England’s win over Wales in the bag and their spot at the top of group G in context of EURO 2012 qualification cemented, Capello will look to test some new players when the Three Lions line up against Ghana on Tuesday, 29th March at Wembley.
There are several key players that are already being touted as potential starters for England. If these players in question start for http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/England-c749 against Ghana they will be expected to shine for the men in white. These players are as follows:
Scott Parker
Following his disciplined display against http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Wales-c3041 in Cardiff on Saturday at the Millennium stadium, Parker now has to secure his place in England’s starting eleven by performing consistently. At first, the West Ham midfielder was labelled as too aggressive
and impulsive for international football. Although this idea holds some water, it can also be said that his passionate approach to the game is exactly what England need in central midfield. With http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Gareth-Barry-c14423 proving time and again that he is as bad as they
come from the British Isles, Parker is England’s only viable option when it comes to defensive midfield roles.
Additionally, Scott’s form with his club West Ham United in the 2010-2011 Premier League season has been impeccable to say the least. The ex-Chelsea midfielder has sometimes singlehandedly kept West Ham’s midfield together due to the absence of either Thomas
Hitzlsperger or Mark Noble. In an England shirt, Parker has played fewer games than most of his first choice compatriots. Charlton Athletic’s youth product has only made five first class appearances for England. However, Parker did play for the three lions
in their U-21 setup.
England’s Achilles heel during the FIFA 2010 World Cup was their two man midfield. Now that http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Jack-Wilshere-c17463 and
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Frank-Lampard-c14097 did tremendously in their playmaking roles for England on Saturday, 26th of March, it was Parker whose work rate allowed his team mates to work their magic in the final third of the field. With the 30-year-old midfielder patrolling
in front of England’s defence, their flair players can express themselves more frequently in attack as they are relieved of their defensive duties.
Alternatively, in Parker’s absence England struggle as a unit. Capello has played Barry as England’s defensive enforcer but his lack of energy and work ethic means that the former World Champions have always suffered on the counter attack. Barry’s attitude
has always forced Capello to deploy Lampard in a much deeper position, a tactic which has basically been counter-productive as Chelsea’s midfielder has always been an offensive midfielder rather than a box to box playmaker. Now all that remains is for Scott
Parker to put in a good shift on Tuesday night and it is likely that he will be replaced in the second half after starting the first one. However, the talismanic midfielder has to prove it to Fabio Capello that is he the only viable option with regard to defensive
midfield duties.
In the second instalment of this series, focus will be shifted towards http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Danny-c10193 Wellbeck and his recent call-up to the senior English national team...
