Five England players that need to impress against Ghana – International Football - Part 3
Daniel Welbeck’s prospects with England were explored in the second part of this series but now it is time to shed some light on Andy Carroll’s future with the three lions and his possible involvement in England’s friendly matchup against http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Ghana-c2905 at Wembley
on 29th of March, 2011.
Andy Carroll
Liverpool’s 35 million pound striker was absent from England’s feature against http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Wales-c3041 on Saturday, 26th March. But he is set to start for the three lions when they battle against Ghana on Tuesday night. Carroll is a relatively inexperienced footballer
at the moment. If one views him with the burden of a 35 million pound price tag, Carroll seems like a good prospect but not a great one. The 35 million pound transfer fee which Newcastle cashed in on as they sold their star striker to Liverpool, makes Carroll
seem like a world class act, something that is an injustice to football as a whole, and Andy himself too. Typifying England’s traditional approach to football, Carroll is over six feet tall, and is mainly used as a battering ram when employed as his team’s
sole striker.
Whilst his aerial abilities are undoubtedly remarkable enough to turn some faces, Carroll lacks predatory instincts and quick feet, something one associates with modern footballing strikers. With 11 goals in the English Premier League, Carroll has seen little
action since his thigh injury in December of 2010. With his latest call up to the English national team, the ex-Newcastle man is most likely to be used as a target man who will be supported by the likes of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Steven-Gerrard-c34196. With England set
to play with a 4-3-3 formation, Andy might fight it hard to adapt to a more fluid three man attack as he has mostly played as a primary striker in a 4-5-1 formation.

the squad as both the wingers have fantastic crossing abilities. Regardless, one thing that Andy Carroll needs to watch out for is his drinking habit. England’s young striker has already been warned by Capello as the Italian stated in his latest interview
that the http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Liverpool-c39809 man needed to practice some patience when it came to alcohol.
Whether, Carroll has a future as England’s main striker is something that only time will tell. With age on his side, Andy will have plenty of opportunities in the future as well but if he cashes in on this chance, his England career might get a jump start
with the three lions scheduled to restart their EURO 2012 qualification campaign in June 2011, after Premier League season ends. Andy definitely needs to add more to his game, but the only way he is going to do that is by playing for http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/England-c749 on a regular basis,
something that can only be done by impressing upon Capello when the match kicks off at Wembley on Tuesday night.
