Five Indian players banned for practice summoned in New Delhi – Hockey News
Hockey India – the hockey governing body accredited by the International Hockey Federation (FIH) – has summoned the five players who had been banned for taking part in the practice session after they attended the launching ceremony of World Series Hockey
(WSH).
The fortune of the five players including Prabhjot Singh, Sandeep Singh, Adrian D’Souza, Sardara Singh and Arjun Halappa will be decided in the high-profile meeting called in New Delhi. These five players were served show-cause notices over the violation
of statutes, as they skipped the training-camp in order to partake in the WSH ceremony.
It is worth mentioning here that the WSH is joint venture of Indian Hockey Federation (IHF) and Nimbus Sport – who launched it on lines of famous cricket series Indian Premier League (IPL). However, the FIH and HI did not authorise the tournament and declared
it unofficial and illegal.
After an interim unification between HI and IHF, it seems that the controversy regarding the World Series Hockey would have settled down. However, the situation got further complicated after the world’s governing body rejected the amalgamation. According
to some media reports, the IHF pressurised HI to withdraw the show-cause notices of the five rebel players but it wasn’t practiced.
In show-cause notices, the said five players were asked to submit their replies by Chairman Disciplinary Committee of HI Pargat Singh regarding their skipping of the training camp. In the latest development, they were summoned in Indian capital for clearing
up their stances.
One of the five players while speaking to the media stated that they had not submitted their answers regarding the show-cause notices. He stated asking not to be named, “We haven't submitted our replies to the show-cause notice. We will be meeting Pargat
Singh in Delhi in a day to two and explain our position.”
According to the media reports, an official of Hockey India informed that the federation left the matter with Pargat Singh to deal with the five rebel players. The HI Disciplinary Committee Chairman earlier proposed ban on these players over the violation.
The decision is like to come out ahead of the next session of the training-camp.
