I just caught a five-lined skink and its in a 10-gallon tank. I was wondering what kind of basking area it needs? Like..is a 40watt lightbulb shining on a rock good enough?

thankx in advance!!!!!!

  1. do you really think it will be happy in a tiny aquarium after living in the wild? let it go! it's gonna die if you don't

  2. try this care sheet http://www.geocities.com/thealienguys/fi...

its where i got my info

  3. let it go in a different spot because usally weird things like that have something to do with chemickles in the water.

also check other animals to see if they look healthey, if not try to see were the chemickls are coming from.

  4. I don't know what the guy was talking about with chemicals since you didn't mention anything about chemicals. If you really want it as a pet, get a 20 gallon tank, the 10 gallon is too small and you might accidently overheat him (it happened to me). You will need to do more research as to the temperatures that you will need to maintain and diet requirements. But as to you question about the set up of a basking spot, you will need reptile bulb (from a pet store), a regular incandescent isn't good for him and a compact flourscent is really bad for him. But yes generally you get something to put the light in on top of the tank and let it shine down into it, a rock is nice for him to perch on but be careful that it won't absorb too much heat and gets really hot or you could burn him.
