Five Reasons why Derrick Rose can again be MVP next season – NBA feature
Derrick Rose is without a doubt No.1 point guard in the entire National Basketball Association at the moment. The 22 year old proved his talent in previous season and in recognition for that, he was named as the Most Valuable Player
(MVP) of the regular season. With this honour Rose became the youngest player in the history of NBA to receive this most prestigious award. Moreover, he became the second player of the Chicago Bulls after Michael Jordan to win this award.
Rose played a vital role in leading the Bulls to the 2011 playoffs with a 62-20 record in the regular season that helped them in securing the first spot of the Eastern Conference. Now the fans are expecting the Bulls and Rose to
at least repeat their previous performance if not able to enhance it.
That makes it a real tough ask for the Bulls and Rose to pull off the same success ratio, it remains to be seen how well or worse they’ll perform, but here are top five reasons why I believe that Rose would be able to produce another
league MVP performance in the next season.
1. Rose will pick up from last season
If you look at the stats of Rose since the beginning of his career, one thing that you will notice is increase in numbers with every passing season. In his rookie year, Rose scored with an average of 16.8 points, 6.3 assists and
3.9 rebounds per game.
These numbers saw the raise in his next season with the Bulls, in which he made 20.8 points, 6.0 assists and 3.7 rebounds each night. Then, in the last season his MVP performance includes these stats: 25.0 points, 7.7 assists and
4.1 rebounds in each game he played.
If Rose continues to progress like he did in his preceding seasons then another MVP award is not far away.
2. Chicago Bulls rely on Rose more than any other player
There is no doubt in any mind that the Bulls had won most of their previous season game because of Rose. Since he carried almost the entire burden on his young shoulders and won many games almost single handedly for his team.
His importance can be gauged from the 2011 Conference Finals against the Miami Heat, during which the South Beach based franchise successfully dealt with Rose and kept his impact lower and overcame the Bulls by 4-1 record. In that
series, Rose scored with an average of 23.4 points per game, while prior to that his scoring average was above 27 points each night.
Another reason of their failure in the conference finals was that the Bulls don’t have good supporting cast with Rose besides Carlos Boozer and Joakim Noah. Both Boozer and Noah were also remained injured during the previous season
as well, so didn’t get much time also to support Rose well.
Rose requires players like Dwyane Wade, Chris Bosh that takes the burden off from LeBron James or like Pau Gasol and Lamar Odom, who take care of the things around Kobe Bryant in L.A.
So if Rose wasn’t there for the Bulls, it would have been not possible for them to pull such a tremendous performance.
3. Rose sets a good example
Even after achieving so much in his small tenure pro-career, Rose has kept himself modest and quiet. It was because of this very nature Rose was able to stay from the troubles. Both Kobe and James should learn from this young lad,
what they haven’t learned even after committing so many mistakes in their career.
4. Plays hard on both offense and defence
Rose is not like the rest of the point guards in the league, who plays offense better than defence. Therefore, he wouldn’t have to make many adjustments in order to settle in coach Tom Thibodeau’s defensive model of play.
Rose plays hard from both ends of the court and had also shown progress not just in tallying points, but also in blocks and steals too. Moreover, Rose whenever enters the game always tried his best to gave his 100 percent during
that time.
5. Playmaker
Whenever the Bulls require someone to deliver the goods for them in the crucial or closing minutes of the game, they always look towards Mr. Reliable (Rose). Since he had never let them down whether it’s shooting a ball from distance
or passing it to another player or playing some good defence on his opponents.
This playmaking ability makes Rose also a great clutch player. All these qualities left no doubt that Rose will make a strong comeback whenever the regular-season tips off, to gra another MVP honour.
