Five homers guide Texas Rangers to 10-3 victory over Los Angeles Angels – MLB Update
The Texas Rangers had a lot to be content with on Tuesday, September 27 after they beat the Los Angeles Angels 10-3 at Angel Stadium in Anaheim.
The club picked up the series winner and it was five homers that proved to be a troubling ordeal for the Angels. A fifth inning that saw Jerome Williams take three home-runs spelled the problems in the Angels’ camp.
Angels pushed Tyler Chatwood into the mix for the encounter in the second series game. The hurler was ineffective from the very beginning as he gave away four runs from seven hits in 2.2 innings. The ball thrower moved to 6-11 in season.
However one starter who fared well in the contest was Colby Lewis. The leading conceder of home-runs in the American League did not give away any homers to the Angels and ended his six innings with two runs conceded from three hits.
The player moved on to 14-10 in the season and is making a strong case for going up against the New York Yankees if the club heads to Yankee stadium in the play-offs.
Rangers began the game on the back foot as Bobby Abreu managed to put the Angels on top with an RBI sacrifice fly. He led in Mike Trout for the first run. However that was the only run the Angels scored for a long time as the Texans pulled out four runs
from the third inning to gain the lead.
Chatwood conceded his first run on a homer from Ian Kinsler. The Texas second baseman set the tempo for the fight back as he smashed the Angels’ hurler to the left. Elvis Andrus then scored in the inning when Michael Young drew in an RBI single. Adrian Beltre
then came in to nudge Josh Hamilton home with a single to the left.
Nelson Cruz then made it 4-1 when he hit an RBI single to the left. His hit allowed Young to run home safe. Angels fought back in the third when Peter Bourjos smashed a triple to deep centre to slot home Andrew Romine home.
Jerome Williams was on the mound for the Angels now and he faced a rude awakening in the top of the fourth when Hamilton hit a sacrifice fly to steer Kinsler home for his second run in the game. The Angels were now three runs behind again and their momentum
fell apart when Beltre, Mike Napoli and Cruz homered in the top of the fifth to make it 8-2.
Napoli would give pitcher Horacio Ramirez a rude welcome in the seventh when he led Beltre home with a strong homer to left centre-field. Unable to stand the 10-2 score line, the Angels managed to bring in one run later as Jeremy Moore ran home on a double
play in the bottom of the seventh. The final score was 10-3.
