Five homers to retaliate, New York Yankees defeat Baltimore Orioles 8-3 – MLB Update
The New York Yankees denied to provide more chances to opposition and retaliated with full power hitting to dominate the Baltimore Orioles 8-3 in the second outing of the two scheduled meetings and third of the rain shortened four-game series at Oriole Park
at Camden Yards on Sunday, August 28 to tie it at 1-all.
Orioles had blanked the Yankees 2-0 in the first game with an excellent performance by Zach Britton, who held the Yankees bat powerless in his seven innings. However, Yankees bat rebound and crushed the Orioles’ starter Brian Matusz.
It was another home-run game for the Yankees as they blistered five homers to completely crush the Orioles’ little hopes. In the third, Curtis Granderson sent the loose pitch to a sky-high 438-feet long hit to get three runs. This hit took the Yankees from
0-2 trail and put them to a 3-2 lead.
After Allan Jones of Orioles tied the outing to 3-all with an RBI single in the bottom of the third, the Yankees struggled a bit against the right hander Matusz. However, their struggle ended in the sixth as Robinson Cano provided the Yankees their home-run
impetus, launching 381-feet long two run homer. Nick Swisher followed with 396-feet long one-run homer and Allan Jones closed the sixth with a 417-feet long one-run home-run.
Orioles’ manager Buck Showalter replaced Matusz with relief pitcher Chris Jakubauskas to create some change in pitching. However, the Yankees bat did not give any respect and forced him to leave after just under an inning. Curtis Granderson played another
part with the same kind of home-run in the seventh.
Ivan Nova, on the other hand was carrying his brilliant pitching to struck-out seven batters on seven innings to get his fourteenth win of the season. Although experts are not considering Nova as the game winner, his performance presents a serious message
to criticisers. He allowed only three runs and two walks on 107 pitches to improve his record to 14-4 with a 3.96 ERA.
David Robertson and Hector Noesi each threw scoreless innings to finalise the Yankees 79th win of the season. This win has reduced the margin to just three wins between the American League’s leader Boston Red Sox and Yankees. The Red Sox are AL
leaders with 82 wins and have fairer chances make post season without wild card.
