What are the five major developmental skill areas of infancy? Which would you say is the most important and why?

I need to know this for an assignment but I don't have my book yet. The book is Infants and Toddlers: Curriculum and Teaching if anyone happens to have it.

  1. social/emotional, gross motor, fine motor, cognitive, and..i believe self-help.

The most important is social/emotional, this will encourage the child to try the other areas on their own.  if they have confidence in themselves then they will succeed in other areas. you can enhance their confidence by speaking to them in a normal tone (not baby talk) getting down to their level when you speak to them, encourage them to try new things and acknowledge any attempts they make at words/movement/gestures

  2. they are physical, intellectual, language, emotional,  and social.

if you look at the initials of these words it spells piles a good way to remember them! i wouldnt say any is more important than the other as we need to develop all five areas to function in life.

  3. • Cognitive

    • Communication

    • Physical

    • Hand/Eye

    • Social/Emotional

    • Self-Help

Check out the site below for more detailed information on each are of development.
