Five nations make their mark to win one title each at the 2011 Bulgarian International
Shuttlers from five different nations won all the five titles at the 2011 Bulgarian International, which ended on Sunday, October 9, in Sofia, the capital city of Bulgaria. No country could dominate the arena as five different nations won one gold medal
in all five categories of the game.
In the Mixed Doubles’ category, Ukraine won the title as Valeriy Atrashchenkov and Anna Kobceva proved their worth against Gary Fox and Samantha Ward of England. It was a wonderful fight which grabbed the attention of the local crowd as both sides put up
a striking show of top-quality badminton. However, the Ukrainian couple remained successful in making their mark over the English duo with a margin of 21-18, 19-21 and 21-14.
The final day of the event belonged to English pair of Mariana Agathangelou and Heather Olver, as they bagged the Women’s Doubles title. Their opponents in the final match were Pradnya Gadre and Prajakta Sawant of India.
It was a tough fight between both pairs as they displayed their wonderful skills for three games. The Indians won the first set while the English pair fought back and grabbed the remaining two sets to claim victory with a margin of 18-21 21-7 21-10.
In the Women’s Singles final showdown, Bulgaria’s Linda Zechiri won the glory for her country when she tamed Neslihan Yigit of Turkey in straight games. It was a one-sided battle as the local lady was in no mood to spare any chance for her Turkish rival.
Linda made the home crowd ecstatic by playing on a different level and won the final match with a 21-18 and 21-14 margin.
In the Men’s Singles title match, Przemyslaw Wacha of Poland played wonderful badminton and defeated Malaysia’s Tan Chun Seang to claim the title. Wacha won the crown after working hard for three games against the spirited Malaysian. The Polish shuttler
won the first game with a 21-11 score but lost the second one with a margin of 11-21. However, he came in the court with a different mood and won the decider with a 21-11 score, with an overall 21-11, 11-21 and 21-11 score on the board.
The Men’s Doubles contest was the final fight of the day in which both pairs were from Chinese Taipei. Liang Jui Wei and Liao Kuan Hao emerged as the winners as they defeated their compatriots, Lu Chia Bin and Huang Po Yi, in straight games.
Jui Wei and Kuan Hao faced no problem to win the first game with a 21-12 score. However, they had to struggle hard to defeat their opponents in the second game with a difference of 22-20. The encounter ended with a 21-12 and 22-20 score on the board.
