Five players confirmed to play the RBC Heritage Golf Tournament – Golf News
Five players, Camilo Villegas, Rickie Fowler, Tommy Gainey, Ben Crane and Lucas Glover, are the latest additions to the field of the PGA Tour’s RBC Heritage Golf Tournament at the Harbour Town Golf Links on Hilton Head Island.
Webb Simpson, Zach Johnson, Bud Cauley and Henrick Stenson, Luke Donald, Davis Love III and Brandt Snedeker are the other big names in the world of golf who have confirmed to play in the tournament.
Villegas has a total of nine professional victories in his career and three of them came on the PGA Tour.
His start to the 2012 golf season is not as good as his professional career stats speak of him. He made six PGA Tour starts, but failed to make the cut in three of them.
Moreover, he has only managed to record two top-25 finishes in the season. Therefore, he may not be among the most followed players in the field.
Fowler, on the other hand, has bright prospects in the tournament because of his better track record in the 2012 PGA Tour season. He made a total of seven starts and succeeded in making cuts in six of them.
Moreover, he registered two top-25 finishes, including one top-10 finish that came in this month’s Honda Classic.
Ben Crane, currently ranks 48th in the Official World Golf Rankings, and is among the favourites to win the title because of his recent form on the PGA Tour.
In seven appearances on the tour this year, Crane succeeded in making three top-10 finishes, which speaks of his great form.
Apart from his current form, he has a great track record at Harbour Town because of his eight appearances in the tournament earlier on.
Glover is the only player who has yet to make the cut on the PGA Tour this year.
The major reason behind this is his injury that sidelined him from each of the events in the first quarter of 2012 except the Transitions Championship, where he missed the cut.
All the players will be playing for the $1.026 million prize money from a purse of $5.7 million.
