    The finishing order was:

    Eugene

    Bob

    Chris

    Don

    Alan

    The reasoning:

    Eugene has to finish last or first, so to be ahead of Chris he has to be first. Chris is two places behind and therefore third. Bob has to finish ahead of Chris, and therefore must be second. Alan has to finish last or first, and first is already occupied, so he's last. That leaves fourth place for Don.
