Five reasons why the Green Bay Packers will win against New York Giants on Sunday - NFL Special
The divisional playoff rounds start this week to decide which two teams will qualify for the National Football Conference Championship game.
Today we will look at one of the biggest fixtures of the weekend as the Green Bay Packers take on the New York Giants on Sunday, January 15th 2012 at the Lambeau Field in Green Bay Wisconsin.
The Packers are favourites to take the win and no wonder that is the case as we provide you the five crucial points why Packers will emerge victorious on Sunday.
1.  Green Bay Packers have not lost at home all season..
The Green Bay Packers will face all their games in the playoffs at home and sometimes home support is just what a team needs to galvanise them to perform to a higher standard. The Packers 8-0 record at home this year is testament to the fact that even though
the Packers are a juggernaut overall, at home they are even more ruthless.
The Lambeau Field is a fortress to the Packers and their offence is scoring at a rate of 40 points per game at the stadium while allowing only a measly 21 points to the opposition. The Giants meanwhile have an ok away record going 5-3 this season and those
statistics may play a bit of a role in the Giants defence’s preparations for the game.
2.  The Packers have lost just once this season
The Green Bay Packers were unbeaten for most of the 2011 season. Only the Kansas City Chiefs were somehow able to stop the Packers juggernaut in week 15 of the season and stopping the Packers march to an unbeaten season. Still though it is just a single
blot on what was one of the best regular seasons for the franchise.
After the loss the Packers ratcheted up two wins in a row with a 35-21 victory over the Chicago Bears and followed it up with a 45-41 win over Detroit Lions in the final game of the season while resting some of their star players including quarterback Aaron
Rodgers.
3.  And speaking about Rodgers
The quarterback has been brilliant throughout the season. Eli Manning of the New York Giants is good but Rodgers is reaching levels of greatness never before seen in the league. Rodgers has been in devastating form emerging completely from the shadow of
previous Packers quarterback and legend Brett Favre as he writes his own legend in the franchise’s history books.
Rodgers has thrown for 45 touchdowns in 2011, one less than New Orleans Saints Drew Brees even though he has played a game less than the Saints quarterback. Rodgers brilliance is in his accuracy as he has been intercepted just six times throughout the season
leading the Packers to post a huge 34 points per game average.
Expect Rodgers to throw some great passes against the Giants and if Rodgers maintains his form in the postseason every team in the playoffs will be shuddering when they take the field against the Packers.
4. The Packers outscore every opponent they face
A look at the Packers statistics shows that they are unstoppable in offence. With Rodgers calling the shots from the pocket, the Packers have gone on a scoring spree averaging a huge 34 points per game. Take into account the 40 points per game average at
Lambeau Field and the Giants defence is in for a rough night on Sunday.
5. The Packers have beaten the Giants twice in their previous two meetings
The Packers and Giants have a lot of history between them. The Giants famously knocked out Green Bay in the 2007 National Football Conference Championship game before going on to upset the 16-0 New England Patriots in the Super Bowl that year.
But recently the Packers have had the better of the Giants in the two games the franchises have faced each other. The Packers won a convincing 45-17 in 2010 and had a close shave 38-35 win in week 13 with a last minute field goal.
All in all that wraps up our five points why the Packers will win against the Giants on Sunday and even though there is always a first time for everything in the National Football League the chances of the Packers being stopped by the 9-7 Giants are slim
if we get down to the cold hard statistics.
