Five rebel players of Indian hockey team fail to appear before disciplinary committee
The five players of the Indian hockey team, who were served show-cause notices over missing the training camp, have failed to appear before the disciplinary committee of Hockey India (HI) to explain their reasons.
It is vital to mention here that the five errant players, who had skipped the training camp to attend the promotional ceremony of World Series Hockey (WSH), were summoned by Pargat Singh – the Chairman Hockey India Disciplinary Committee. However, they did
not show up themselves in this regard which further complicated the situation.
Pargat Singh while speaking the journalists said that the rebel players did not come before the hearing panel. He stated, “They did not turn up for the hearing today. After they had sent a written reply to the show-cause notice, I had summoned them for a
meeting. I gave them the option to choose the time, date and venue.”
The five players including Prabhjot Singh, Sardara Singh, Sandeep Singh, Adrian D’Souza and Arjun Halappa had sought permission from the Sports Authority of India (SAI) to attend the two-day ceremony of WSH – the joint project of the annual league of the
Indian Hockey Federation (IHF) and Nimbus Sports.
The annoyed Hockey India barred all the five players to partake in the training camp and later permitted only for first phase of the session. However, the Disciplinary Committee issued show-cause notices and summoned for explanation before the hearing panel.
The rebel players though answered in the written form but did not appear physically before the probe-panel to explain the reasons of the violation.
Replying to a query, Pargat Singh was of the opinion that he would not add his own views in the report scheduled to be submitted before Hockey India. The federation will take decision by its own about fate of the rebel players.
The second phase of the training camp is going to commence on today (Monday) in which some 46 of the 48 probable players will see action. As per the schedule of Indian hockey coach Michael Nobbs, the practice session will continue until August 27 with a
mission to pick a group of 24 to 25 players for the core line-up.
The coach, who arrived in the Indian Capital of New Delhi last week, will pay a visit to the training camp on August 8. On the other hand, SS Grewal will also review the session on the same day.
It will be interesting to see what action the Disciplinary Committee will take against the five players from not showing up to the hearing.
