Five role players that led the San Antonio Spurs in the last decade: NBA Special (Part-1)
The San Antonio Spurs are considered one of the top sides in the National Basketball Association (NBA), they have been so for the last decade. Many other NBA sides look up-to them as a role-model franchise that has always showed
a good team spirit.
Over the course of the last decade, the Spurs have produced some exceptional basketball talent. The likes of Tim Duncan, Manu Ginobili and Tony Parker have no doubt been the ace players for the Spurs, bit in between; they have
also produced some brilliant role players, who were pivotal in the three NBA titles, Spurs bagged in the last decade. A list of these players is as under;
Stephen Jackson:
Stephen Jackson is considered one of the very best players who improved a lot during his stay in the San Antonio Spurs. He did not play much for the Spurs but still he proved his valour against every opponent in the league.
Jackson spent two seasons with the Spurs but during his stay, he earned a great name for his game. He joined the Spurs in 2001 and played until 2003 season. His fist season was not proved good but later in the second season he
made a lasting impact on his individual game. The 2002-2003 season was the most memorable season in his career. He played total 80 regular season’s games and averaged 11.8 point, 3.6 rebounds and 2.3 assists per game. He helped his other teammates reaching
the NBA finals in 2003 which eventually proved wonderful his team.
Thanks to Jackson’s great consistent performance in the playoffs, the Spurs won the 2003 NBA title. He averaged 12.8 points per game in the playoffs and stood tall in every crucial game. Playing for the Spurs’ also proved wonderful
for Jackson’s individual game as later after some six years, he improved his average to 18.5 points per game.
Malik Rose:
Malik Rose has spent almost eight seasons with the San Antonio Spurs and earned great acknowledgement form many basketball experts. During his very first year with Spurs’, he averaged 3.0 points and 3.0 rebounds per game.
Malik Rose was an exceptional offensive player. During his entire NBA career, he never looked tired on the court and performed wonderfully. During his tremendous stay at San Antonio, he learned some real basketball skills which
eventually helped him in the future.
Rose started his career in 1996 when the Charlotte Bobcats selected him in the second round but it was his good luck as he later traded to the San Antonio Spurs 1997. His arrival in the Spurs’ roster proved wonderful for him as
he started performing well even in his first year with his new team.
Later in 1999, he won his first NBA title with the Spurs while his individual tremendous performance was excelled in the crucial stages of the competition. Still many basketball experts recognised his contribution when the Spurs
won that Championship in style.
