Five run ninth inning helps Baltimore Orioles beat Boston Red Sox 8-5 at Fenway Park - MLB

Baltimore Orioles made an unexpected comeback on Wednesday, April 10 against the Boston Red Sox to win the game 8-5. The game was in the Red Sox control as they entered the top of the ninth with a 5-3 lead.
It appeared that the O’s were going to lose another close one before the game changed as some of the off colour hitters came to the party.
The inform first baseman Chris Davis led the charge with his fifth home-run of the season before two hitters were retired by Joel Hanrahan. Ryan Flaherty singled on a 2-2 pitch to keep the birds alive in the game. This was Ryan’s first hit of the season
in 18 at-bats.
Two batters were walked. With bases loaded, Manny Machado walked in to bat. Hanrahan further helped the Orioles cause by sending a wild pitch into the dirt and allowing pinch runner Alexi Cassilla to reach home-plate and tie the game.
The next pitch found its way over what is called the green monster for a three-run home-run. This was the last pitch the reliever threw in the game and Orioles had taken a lead that was sufficient to win the game. This was Boston’s relievers first blown
save this season.
Manny Machado was pleased at the outcome of the evening which saw the Orioles arrest the three games slide that they have experienced.
''To come out with the victory is just going to give us the big boost that we needed to get this show rolling,'' Machado said.
The manager for the birds, Buck Showalter was pleased with the outcome of the game and also liked the performance of some of the struggling hitters. He knows that his hitters are looking to contribute for the team and are not there just for the personal
statistics.
"You can see the frustration on his face in the previous at-bats a little bit," Showalter said. "It's because they want to contribute. It's the reason Ryan and Manny want to contribute, they want to do something for our team. It's not personal. They want
to be a contributor."
There is a bit of concern for the Baltimore ballclub about the form of Tommy Hunter who gave away three runs away in less than three innings.
“It's frustrating for Tommy, because he has too good of stuff to have that happen to him as often as it does," Showalter said.
The O’s will go into the series finale with a chance to win the series against the Red Sox in their own backyard. A series win against one of the stronger teams in the MLB early in the season can be a great source of inspiration.
The team management will certainly like to build upon the good work and carry some momentum forward.
